About Us » FAQ
Q) HOW DO I ENROL IN WORKSHOPS?
A) Easy! We take enrolments throughout the year. Make sure you contact us first to find out available class times and to ensure there are places available in your preferred workshop time. We will then post you a confirmation of class time and starting date. Once this is recieved you will need to post back a complete enrolment form (found on the 'IN NEWCASTLE' page) along with your $15 enrolment fee to our postal address. Then turn up 5 minutes before the class to meet your tutor.
Q) WHERE DO HRDS TUTORS COME FROM?
A) All HRDS tutors are working professional theatre artists. Some are trained at tertiary level and others have had years of experience in the professional performing arts industry. All of our staff have had Working with Children Checks.
Q) CAN I COME AND SEE A CLASS TO SEE IF I LIKE IT?
A) Yes! But please phone ahead for times and to make sure there are spaces available for you. It will cost $15 to participate.
Q) HOW MUCH ARE THE FEES?
A) HRDS has an annual enrolment fee of $15 and then it is $90 per term. $85 per term if you are between the ages of 5 and 8 years.
Q) CAN I PAY OFF MY FEES OVER A TERM?
A) Occasionally we will consider this arrangement. But our general rule of thumb is fees become due after the child has participated in 2 workshops.
Q) CAN I GET INTO AN OLDER AGE GROUP, EVEN THOUGH I’M NOT QUITE THE RIGHT AGE?
A) No. Only if you are going to turn the right age during the term for which you are enrolling. The workshops are specifically designed to suit age range and developmentla stages. The content and issues we deal with during workshops are designed to give each student the best experience without feeling uncomfortable.
Q) IS DRAMA SCHOOL THE BEST THING FOR MY CHILD?
A) If in doubt, give us a call.
Q) WHAT WORKSHOP TIME DOES MY CHILD FIT INTO?
A) Please see our workshops page for details as to days we run classes. Classes are grouped by age. You will need to contact us to find out which day and class time will be appropriate for your child. (See first question on this page for how to enrol.)
Q) DO I HAVE TO AUDITION TO BE INVOLVED IN WORKSHOPS?
A) No. Workshops are open to everyone. New people join workshops throughout the year.
Q) ARE YOUR WORKSHOPS DIFFERENT FROM SCHOOL DRAMA?
A) Yes. All our workshops are taught by practicing industry professionals. While you learn skills and develop your understanding, you will be learning about the professional side of a career in the creative arts.
